DL Construction was founded by owner Tom Shebel, a builder whose passion for creating, fixing, and improving spaces began long before his professional career. Growing up on a farm in Indiana, Tom spent his childhood outdoors, learning the value of hard work, resourcefulness, and integrity. His natural love for building led him to Purdue University, where he first studied electrical engineering before shifting into Construction Engineering and Management—a field that blended his interests in structural engineering, mechanics, and hands-on problem solving.
Tom’s professional journey began with a general contractor specializing in large-scale, complex commercial work. His experience includes major projects across the pharmaceutical, healthcare, brewery, cafeteria, and specialty commercial sectors, giving him a deep understanding of high-performance construction environments. After working with two family-owned mom-and-pop firms, Tom launched his own commercial construction company in 2016, which remains active today. With more than 28 years of experience, he brings unmatched skill, discipline, and a practical engineering mindset to every project.
But behind the expertise is a man grounded in family and values. Tom and his wife, Kim, have been married for 19 years and share their home with their dog Lincoln, along with the memory of their beloved dog Duke, who passed away from cancer. Duke’s journey left a meaningful impact on Tom, shaping his perspective on life, leadership, and compassion. As an “open book,” Tom lives by a simple, unwavering rule: treat everyone the way he would want his own wife to be treated if he weren’t around. That philosophy drives the culture at DL Construction and guides every client relationship.
